ALERT - CODE ORANGE

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has issued a code orange alert for the Knoxville and surrounding counties for August 13 and 14th. Concentrations of ground-level ozone is unhealthy to young, seniors and people with breathing problems.

REDUCE AIR POLLUTION

Who is affected? People with lung disease (including asthma), active adults and children

Cautionary Statement - Cut back or reschedule strenuous outside activity



· Choose a cleaner commute (share a ride to work or use public transportation).

· Modify plant/store operations to reduce combustion sources (reduces NOx) and conserve energy.

· Limit engine idling, skip the drive thru.

· Conserve energy (cut back A/C, turn off appliances/light, and close blinds).

· Postpone lawn mowing and filling of gas tanks until evening.

· Don’t burn leaves or trash.

· Take your lunch to work or walk to a nearby restaurant.

· Combine errands."
