Loudon County Unemployment climbs 9.3%
Rate Increase in 74 Counties & Decrease in 19

State unemployment rates increased in 75 counties while they decreased in 19 counties according to the latest state press release. March 2009’s national unemployment rate was 8.5 percent, up from the February rate of 8.1 percent while Tennessee’s unemployment rate for the same period was 9.6 percent, up 0.6 percentage point from the February rate of 9 percent. A year ago last March, the rate was 5.7 percent.
Loudon County’s unemployment rate continues to climb also, now at 9.3 percent, higher than the national average and slightly below the state average. Last March the unemployment rate was 5.1 percent, an increase of 4.2 percent over last year. The unemployment rate over March 2009 was 8.4 percent with a .9 percent increase on one month alone. Knox County continues to be third (3rd) at 7.3 percent in the Top 10 Low Unemployment rates, statewide. Lincoln County was first in that category with 6.9 percent followed by Williamson County, second at 7.2 percent.
Roane was 10th lowest with 8.4 percent while neighboring Monroe was 4th highest rate and made the Top 10 highest unemployment list. It seems that much of their rate is tied to manufacturing jobs according to news reports.
