LENOIR CITY AUDIT CITES NUMEROUS FINANCIAL DEFICIENCIES

LENOIR CITY AUDIT

Do you live in Lenoir City? Are you concerned about your property taxes and how city officials spend your hard earned money? Do you shop in Lenoir City; your sales tax goes into city coffers for city officials to spend.

The new administration of Mayor Tony Aikens has been plagued with bad press. First, with the City Hall scandal involving the four clerks, and now more bad news concerning the newly released Lenoir City's Financial Audit ending June 30, 2010. The audit was conducted by an independent accounting firm of Jake, Brown, & McDaniel located in Knoxville. This firm has conducted audits for Lenoir City, and LCUB for many years.

Some of the audit findings include:

  • During our audit, we noticed some employees were cashing personal checks out of the cash drawer. Occasionally, these checks were being held and not immediately deposited.

  • During our audit, we noted that payments of accrued liabilities are not always posted to the correct account and/or fund.

  • During the audit, we had to make significant adjustments to various asset and liability accounts of the City so the City's financial statements would conform to generally accepted accounting principles. This finding was reported in the prior year.

  • During our audit, we noted numerous mispostings in the general ledger...

LCUB AUDIT  

Are you an LCUB ratepayer? Are you concerned about your high utility bill? Your utility board and management hire personnel to provide services to you the ratepayer. The audit will give you an idea as to how your money is spent on personnel, benefits, insurance, pension plan, other operating expenditures, capital expenditures, etc. There are several audit findings for LCUB including the "Utilities Board did not properly bid meter reading services" and "Lack of documentation for travel and meals related to conferences. This finding also was reported during the prior year."
