There’s Change in the Air
New Faces on School Board
By: Pat Hunter
Thursday was Election Day and voters made some significant changes to the Loudon County Board of Education. First District School Board member defeated PTO President Wendy Baustian by 78 votes. Not too shabby for Ms. Baustian who ran a good race on a shoestring budget! Bill Marcus returns for a second term.
The voters did not retain School Board members Larry Bass (Greenback), Nancy Paule (Tellico Village) and both Fifth District School Board members June Klinstiver (Eaton) and Freddy Walker (Eaton). There was talk in the air of a clean sweep and that almost happened.
Van Shaver former 5th District Commissioner was elected to Seat B. Gary Ubben, UT Professor will be another new face on the School Board representing District 5.
Lisa Russell will represent Greenback and she will be the only woman on the school board; Lisa Russell replaces Larry Bass. Russell received 63.09 percent of the vote.
Craig Simon narrowly edged out Nancy Paule for the District 7, Tellico Village & Piney. Scotty Newman ran unopposed and received a complimentary vote of 763 votes.
